Nancy Iraba

Nancy Iraba is an Award Winning Marine Scientist (Msc), Co-founder and the Chief Executive Officer at Healthy Seaweed Co. Limited (™️ Seaweed Cafe), a social enterprise that innovates, processes and produces diverse high quality, nutritious and affordable seaweed-based food products while using an inclusive value chain to provide a consistent market for women seaweed farmers in Tanzania. Seaweed Cafe’s vision is to promote a healthy and sustainable lifestyle through innovative seaweed superfoods. Since the company started in 2020, it has won the “Social Impact Award'' during Africa Green Revolution Conference in 2022 as one of the youth-led solutions propelling Africa forward in the agri-entrepreneurship sector. It was among top 10 shortlisted ventures under 2022 World Ocean Initiative challenge for promoting sustainable ocean economy and has received support from United States African Development Foundation (USADF) and from Safe Seaweed Coalition. Seaweed Cafe is a recent grand winner for the 2023 Ocean Innovation AFRICA and Top Innovator of the Great Blue Wall Challenge, an initiative of the World Economic Forum. Nancy has been recently been appointed by the University of Dar es Salaam as a member of the industry advisory committee for the marine science cluster where she will help shape the university curricula to meet labor market needs in the sector of life below water.
